The Importance Of Sunscreen In Skin Care!

Sunscreens are a preventative health practice that is safe, economical, and can greatly reduce your chances of developing skin cancer. Sunscreen also protects your skin from looking weathered and aged before its time.

Natural sunscreens use a physical barrier such as zinc oxide or titanium oxide to block UV rays. Chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays and neutralise them in the skin tissues.

Many individuals do not feel they appear vital and healthy unless they have a suntan. It is nearly impossible to reverse the signs of early ageing. Expensive lotions, creams and vitamins will not rejuvenate skin that has been suntanned for numerous years and damaged.

UVA and UVB rays are in the air all the time, and unfortunately we cannot see them.
These rays reflect from glass, sand, water and concrete, exposing them to us even more.  Therefore, everyone should use a sunscreen with a broad protection of at least 30+ which protect skin against UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays penetrate deeper in to the dermis and break down collagen and elastin fibers, causing wrinkles and DNA mutations to occur in the skin cells. These mutations lead to cancer. UVB rays are the burning rays. Exposure to the sun thickens the skin and a tan is a sign of sun-injury. Sunscreen can protect the skin from these harmful effects of these premature ageing and cancer.

Even though people require 15 minutes of exposure to the sun everyday for an adequate vitamin D supply for healthy bones and teeth, any more than that becomes detrimental. As well as premature ageing, sun exposure also causes skin cancer, and Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world. Because of this sunscreen is now essential to prevent these skin cancers and sun damage to skin.

Thousands of individuals die each year from skin cancer.
Education about the sun and its harmful effects on the skin is being taught to children so they can protect their health and not repeat the mistakes of earlier generations. Attitudes are slowly changing as society realizes that the sun is something we should protect our skin from, and we should no longer be trying to soak it up. Those who want a tan are slowly turning to self-tanning lotions and spray on tans.
