The Importance Of Vitamin C In Skin Care!

The purpose behind any real skin care is to give you that younger, fresher look every day.  Its goal is to rejuvenate the skin in such a way that its earlier glow and health are maintained.  One of the most important vitamins for skin care is Vitamin C.

Found naturally in the human body and with some of the highest botanical sources from Kakadu Plum, Blackcurrants and Cranberries. Vitamin C has become the most popular and controversial cosmeceutical ingredient in recent years.

L-Ascorbic Acid commonly known as Chirally Correct Vitamin C, is an essential ingredient in many skin care products and recognised for its ability to protect skin against oxidative damage.  It's known to have photo protective effects on the skin and has shown to decrease UVB induced erythema (i.e. sunburn) and improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin.  As an antioxidant, Vitamin C helps the skin protect itself against the effects of the sun and then also helps repair the damage already done throughout your lifetime. However, it is important to note that although vitamin C boosts the efficacy of sunscreen, it should not be used as a substitute for a good sun block with a high SPF.

As we age, our body's ability to produce collagen decreases, so a supplement that helps the body produce more collagen is great when trying to combat the effects of aging.  Simply by growing older there is a natural reduction of the production of collagen in the body, and this is revealed by the appearance of wrinkles on the skin.  Vitamin C stimulates the growth of collagen, a substance that gives structure and strength to your skin, which in turn significantly improves skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and decrease sallowness.  It is also known to have anti-inflammatory properties, so it can be used to treat a variety of inflammatory conditions thus strengthen skin's barrier response.

It significantly improves skin clarity, so is used in the treatment and maintenance of several pigmentation disorders such as Melasma , sun spots and general prevention of unwanted discolouration.

It is essential to understand the importance for vitamin C to be able to effectively evaluate products and product stability. Though often unstable in many forms and derivatives, it is evident that vitamin C has a synergistic effect with vitamin E, working hand in hand by protecting and repairing free-radical attacked vitamin E antioxidants, enabling more efficient scavenging.
