IPL Photo Rejuvenation

IPL Photo Rejuvenation is a quick, relatively painless and non-invasive procedure that uses medical-grade Intense Pulsed Light technology to remove discoloured, damaged or prematurely aged skin. This allows your natural skin tone to glow and produce smoother, younger and healthier-looking skin while correcting vascular and pigmented skin conditions.

Our FDA-approved European ipulse IPL technology to correct the signs of ageing from the entire face, neck and décolletage. It is an ideal treatment for treating vascular or diffused redness and blotchiness, pigmented brown spots and sun-damaged skin. The result is a smooth, even-toned and revitalised skin appearance. IPL photo rejuvenation can also treat age spots, discoloured areas and other tell-tale signs of ageing on your hands and most other body areas.

IPL works by releasing pulses of precisely targeted filtered light in multiple wavelengths that are absorbed by damaged skin tissue (age spots, uneven pigmentation, broken blood capillaries and diffused redness). This triggers the body’s natural wound healing response that stimulates improved collagen and elastin production, repairing the damaged tissue without causing any disruption to the skin’s epidermis (surface layer). This provides superior skin rejuvenation while addressing the effects of photo-ageing and sun damage, treating abnormal blood vessels and pigmentation on your skin with little to no recovery time.

For every IPL session, we place goggles over your eyes to protect them, and apply a thin layer of gel to the treatment area to guide the light into the skin. The light applicator is placed over the treatment area releasing a flash of light that is absorbed by the damaged area then moved to the neighbouring area, with the process repeated until the entire zone is treated.

IPL is extremely safe in the hands of our highly-accredited and experienced laser safety clinician. Rest assured, you are under the best of care.

Any person over the age of 18 years who shows signs of aged or sun-damaged skin is a candidate for IPL Photo Rejuvenation treatments.

Note: IPL Photo Rejuvenation cannot be performed during pregnancy or lactation, nor can it be done on recently sun-tanned or sun over-exposed skin. After treatment, clients will need to avoid sun exposure and use SPF30+ sunscreen.

As our ipulse IPL system delivers energy to the skin in a gentle way, the treatment does not hurt, with some describing the sensation similar to the flick of an elastic band. After a pigmentation or vascular session, it is normal to experience:

  • Some redness, slight swelling and a mild sunburn-like sensation due to the body’s normal healing response to the light stimuli. This generally fades away within a couple of hours.
  • Crusts, grazed skin or dirty appearance on pigmented areas is a positive outcome as the targeted pigmentation is moving to the surface of the skin. This may last up to 2 weeks.
  • Broken facial capillaries become darker before they become lighter or disappear.
  • In some cases, cold sores or blistering may occur. This will heal thanks to the natural healing process triggered during the treatment.

Important: IPL is most effective on people with fair complexions. Those with darker complexions can only have treatments using lower energy levels for which they will require more sessions. For people with very dark skin, IPL is not recommended. Similarly, people with a recent tan (whether from sunlight, tanning beds or spray tans) will need to wait until the tan has completely faded before starting IPL treatment. As problems such as serious burns and loss of pigmentation can occur if you withhold such information, it is extremely important for you to read through the list of known contraindications and be fully transparent with our clinician. Rest assured, all of this will be covered in detail in your initial consultation and before every session.

After the first session, you will experience a visible improvement in your skin’s radiance and tone. Pigmented lesions and the vasculars will become darker and turn crusty or dirty in appearance over a couple of weeks and fall off after exfoliation, revealing new skin underneath.

For the best results of a youthful radiant skin with a clearer complexion, a series of treatments will be required together with daily use of your prescribed skincare. As new skin regenerates, it must be protected with a broad spectrum sunscreen to avoid further sun damage.

Note: You MUST avoid sun exposure 4 – 6 weeks before and after an IPL Treatment as it tans your skin, as well as makes it sun-sensitive thus increasing the chances of complications occurring.

You will notice an improvement after the first session. However, for dramatic and optimised results a series of treatments are required. Depending on the condition of the skin and your desired result:

  • Pigmentation: One session every 4 – 6 weeks.
  • Broken capillaries and vascular redness: One session every 2 weeks.

In some cases more sessions may be required depending on the extent of skin damage and the pigmentation depth. Follow-up treatments may be desired once or twice a year to maintain the longevity of the achieved results.

Minimal to zero downtime. By following our recommended guidelines pre and post-treatment, you can return to work and resume all normal activities following your IPL treatment.

IPL results can last for over 12 – 18 months depending on individual skincare routine, sun exposure and the natural ageing process. We recommend a maintenance treatment session every 4 – 6 months to extend the life of your IPL treatments.

The condition of the skin and individual lifestyle including diet, exercise and regular skincare routine play an important part in extending the longevity of results. Post-treatment homecare serums are highly recommended, as well as keeping the body well hydrated with 1 – 2 litres of water daily.

On their own, all of our treatments deliver effective results. When combined in a complementary multi-treatment program (Super-Charged Combination Therapy), they work at different levels within your skin to deliver visibly superior, more effective, targeted and longer-lasting results.

To ensure the best results, you must follow the correct Pre and Post-Care instructions.
